Yaşlılıkta Bilgelik Konusunda Bir Derleme

Öz:
Her toplumda yaşlanma ve yaşlılığa bakış açısı değişmekle birlikte yaşlılık dönemine özgü biyolojik, fizyolojik, sosyal, ekonomik ve psikolojik değişmeler nedeni ile Durakın da (2004) belirttiği gibi toplumda yaşlı denilince; bakıma muhtaç, yürüme güçlükleri olan, değişime kapalı, mutsuz, yalnız ve sosyal ilişkileri zayıflamış bir birey akla gelmektedir. Oysa bilgi, beceri ve deneyimler temelinde düşünüldüğünde bazı yaşlılar için yaşlılık dönemi bilgelik yılları olarak nitelendirilebilir. Bu anlamda bilgi ve deneyimlerinden gençlerin yararlanmalarını olanaklı kılmak açısından bilge yaşlıların önemli bir potansiyele sahip olduklarını söylemek mümkündür. Bu derleme makalede bilgelik, yaşlılık döneminde bilgeliğin gelişimi ve bunu etkileyen faktörler ile bilgeliğin kuşaklararası aktarılması çeşitli araştırma sonuçları ve bilim insanlarının yaklaşımlarına bağlı olarak tartışılacaktır.

A Review on Wisdom in Old Age

Öz:
While the point of views on aging and old age vary in every society, as Durak (2004) stated, owing to biological, physiological, social, economic, and psychological changes peculiar to older age, when the term elderly is mentioned, an image of an unhappy and lonely individual who is in need, closed to changes with movement restrictions and with weakened social relations comes to minds in the society. However, when knowledge, ability and experience are taken into consideration, old age can be referred as wisdom years, speaking of some old individuals. In this sense, it is very plausible to say that wise old people are of an important potential in terms of enabling young generations to benefit from their knowledge and experience. In this review article, wisdom, the development and underlying factors of wisdom in old age as well as the transfer of it to next generations will be discussed in the lights of some research results and approaches of various scholars.
