Üniversite Öğrencilerinde internet Bağimliliği ve ili?kili Sosyodemografik Faktörler

Öz:
Amaç: Kompulsif internet kullanımı ve internetle aşırı uğraş sonucu oluşan yeti yitimi, son dönemlerde lite ratürde internet bağımlılığı başlığı altında sıklıkla tartışılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, DSM-5'te daha fazla çalışmaya gereksinim duyulan konular arasında gösterilen internet bağımlılığının üniversite öğrencileri arasında yaygınlığını ve sosyodemografik değişkenlerle ilişkisini incelemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Mersin Üniversitesi'nin ana kampüsünde 910 öğrenciyle gerçekleştirilen çalışmada; öğrencilere sosyodemografik veri formu ve Young'ın ınternet Bağımlılığı Ölçeği (ıBÖ) uygulanmış olup, alınan puanlara göre internet bağımlılığı (ıB), riskli internet kullanımı (RıK) ve ortalama internet kullanımı (OıK) olan öğrenciler sosyodemografik özellikler ve internet kullanım özellikleri yönünden istatistiksel olarak karşılaştırılmışlardır. Bulgular: ıB oranı %2, RıK %20,9 ve OıK %77,1 olarak saptanmıştır. ıB olan ve olmayan (OıK + RıK) gruplar karşılaştırıldığında, sosyodemografik özellikler (yaş, cinsiyet, medeni durum, birlikte yaşanılan kişi, aylık gelir, okuduğu fakülte) açısından farklılıklar istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmamıştır. ıB ve RıK grubunda çoğunlukla haftada 40 ve üzeri saat internet kullanıldığı, ortalama kullanıcılarla karşılaştırıldığında; bu farkın her iki grup için de istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0,05). ıB'de en sık kullanılan internet aktivitelerinin sohbet ve sosyal paylaşım; ıB olmayan grupta ise bilgi araştırma ve haber okuma siteleri olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç: Üniversite öğrencileri arasında %2 oranında saptadığımız ve aşırı internet kullanımı ile seyreden internet bağımlılığı önemli bir toplum ruh sağlığı problemi olarak dikkat çekmektedir.

Internet Addiction Among University Students and Related Sociodemografic Factors

Öz:
Objectives: Preoccupation and compulsive use of theinternet can cause impairment in functionality and haslong been debated on the topic of "internet addiction" .The aim of the present study is to examine internetaddiction, which is noted in the DSM-5 as the subjectneeded further studies, and related sociodemographicfactors among university students. Method: 910 students from main campus of Mersin University were participated in the study, Young's Internet Addiction Testand sociodemographic questionnaire are applied to thestudents, the groups were classified as internet addiction(IA), risky internet usage (RIU) and average internetusage (AIU) according to the internet addiction test(IAT). Thus, the groups were compared with each otherwith respect to sociodemographic factors via statisticalanalysis. Results: In our study, 2% of students were in IAgroup, 21,9% in RIU and 77,1% in AIU. No significantstatistical difference was found between IA and non-IA(RIU + AIU) groups in terms of sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, marital status, people living together, monthly income and faculty). Students categorizedinto IA and RIU were found to spend over 40 hours onthe internet (p<0,05). The most commonly used internet activities were chatting and social networking for IA;news reading and researching for non-IA group.Conclusion: Internet addiction observed among collegestudents at a rate of 2% and characterized by excessiveinternet usage raises concern as a significant communalmental health problem
