Anahtar Kelime: PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ BELIEFS ABOUT TEACHING AND LEARNING MATHEMATICS
Öz: The general purpose of this study is to determine the beliefs about the teaching and learning of the mathematics of the primary school teachers. In the study, a screening model was used because it was intended to collect data to identify specific characteristics of a group. The sample of the study constitutes 208 primary school teachers working in the province of Mersin, Tarsus in 2017-2018 school year. Data were gathered in the research by "Personal Information Form" developed by researchers and "Beliefs about Mathematics Scale" developed by Kayan (2011). As a result of the findings obtained from the research, we can express the results as follows: The results show that primary school teachers believe that their beliefs about learning and teaching mathematics are quite high. The results also show that primary school teachers have more constructivist beliefs. The result of the gender variable in the study is not a meaningful joint influence on constructivist and traditional beliefs. According to the findings, it is seen that both male and female primary school teachers are very close to each other in the dimensions in question and that gender is not a significant variable on the beliefs about mathematics about the dimension of teachers. In the study, it was concluded that the seniority variable had no significant effect on constructivist beliefs but had a significant impact on traditional beliefs for some seniority categories. Another finding in the study is that the class level variable taught does not have a significant impact on traditional beliefs but has a significant impact on constructor beliefs for some class-level categories.
