A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS ON THE SUB-COMPONENTS OF HEALTH TOURISM IN INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE

Öz:
It includes “medical tourism”, “thermal and spa wellness tourism” and “senior and disabled tourism” as sub-components of health tourism. The fact that health tourism has an important share in the tourism income of the countries has directed the researchers to this field and the components have been examined in various aspects in recent years. The purpose of this study is to examine which sub-topics are generally focused on in these analyzes in terms of author, reference and journal citation network, keyword network, country and institution connection. For analysis, 494 articles from the Web of Sciences database scanned in the SSCI citation index between 2000- 2019 have been reached. VOSviewer software was used to reveal connections between the network map and nodes in the data set obtained. When we look at the network map, the most used keyword is “medical tourism”, the most quoted article in the reference co-citation network is Connell's (2006) study, the magazine which is the most cited and linking force in the journal co-citation network, “Tourism Menagement”, the co-author John Connell was the most cited in the citation network. In the bibliographic coupling analysis, Jeremy Snyder leads by document strength and number. Finally, it is determined that the country with the highest connectivity in the cooperation of the country and the institution is England and the institution is Sejong University. As a result, it has been determined that medical tourism has found a wide area of research, and that elderly and disabled tourism has gained speed as a newly developing area. In addition, it has been determined that there is a gap in the international literature because of the limited research done on thermal and spa-wellnes tourism.
