As in many areas, studies in the field of mathematics education have increased rapidly in recentyears. The need to investigate the studies in this area has emerged. Within the scope of this study, the tendenciesof the articles and master/Phd thesis about the mathematics textbooks in the field of mathematics education wereexamined and awareness was tried to be created. In this study, 37 theses and 50 articles were analysed by usingmeta-synthesis method. The studies examined were examined according to year, grade level, research method,data collection tool, university and department, number of authors, purpose and results. It was observed that thetheses examined in the study increased in the period of 2008-2012 and the articles increased after 2009. It hasbeen concluded that the researches are mostly used for evaluating secondary school books and especially 7thgrade mathematics textbooks, it is preferred to work with more than one author in the studies, the data collectiontool used frequently is ”document review“ and the method used is ”scanning model”. Besides, most of thestudies were done for the purpose of examining and evaluating the use of textbooks. When the results of thestudies are examined, it is seen that there are negative results about mathematics textbooks.
