Gastronomy, which is one of the alternative tourism types, is an important place in supporting the local economy and destination marketing due to the fact that twelve months of the year can be realized. Gastronomy tourism includes domestic and foreign tourism travels to places where local food and beverages are located. Geographical indication is an important tool in the registration, promotion and conversion of local foods into tourism products. Turkey has a great potential in terms of gastronomy tourism and geographical indication thanks to the rich culinary culture. However, it is known that this potential is not used enough and awareness is low. In this context, this research was carried out to reveal the gastronomic tourism potential of Samsun province. In the research carried out with the method of document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods, Samsun cuisine, geomarked products and candidates for geographical indication were introduced. As a result of the research, Samsun has important values that it can use in the field of gastronomic tourism (8 geomarked products, 3 application stages and 6 candidates to receive geographical indication) but it has been determined that these products can’t be used adequately as tourism elements and various suggestions are presented.
